WebSlink

WebSlink is a module capable of displaying all Web Links configured in Joomla Administration, in the unique select list format introduced in GlideShow. The main features are:

  • can be displayed in Lightbox mode, with or without the wrapper shown,
  • optional Google search results within preview panel (note, Google has since stopped allowing its site within iFrames). Use the open links in new page instead,
  • lists show link, optional description and date added,
  • two styles, one for light templates, another for dark, with 14 'optional' wrapper styles,
  • search filtering by title, date and domain name,
  • doesn't interfere with Search Engine listings of links,
  • all links, if clicked on for new window, updates your link hit counts for Joomla Administration,
  • honours linked site by not containing original site in frame,
  • gives visitors the benefit of not having to search for related items themselves,
  • shows Google image previews.

Please share your experience of WebSlink at the Joomla Extensions Directory.

 WebSlink Module Version:1.6

28th Oct 2011. Fixed self location bug.

23rd Oct 2011. Fixed exclude categories bug.

20th Sept 2011. Updated visuals. Now offers a better way to use Google results with checkbox. Links are for the full card type of idea. Fixed lightbox close bug. New admin options for link destination, whether to show categories. Much nicer for single list of links.

4th July 2011. Changed quite a few things: now conforms to HTML5 by using proper data fields. Changed the way the module works, now using two icons for direct Google or link. Several other small improvements visually.

Testing & Requirements

  • Tested on Windows XP SP2/3 and MacOS Leopard: Internet Explorer versions 6, 7, 8, Safari versions 3, 4, Firefox version 3, 3.5, Google Chrome 3.
  • The same technical requirements as outlined at this link for Joomla 1.5.
  • All jQuery scripts for this module have been written for noConflict mode without the $ symbol.
  • As always with extensions including CSS files, some modifications of the modules CSS files may be required to get an 'exact visual' fit for your template(s).
  • Preferably a local testing server before using WebSlink on your live Internet site.

Known Issues / Restraints

  • Does not work 100% (and never will) with Explorer version 6 (released in 2001).
  • To be loaded within an article, the module requires a suitable module space, such as user10. Some editing of active template(s) XML file(s) may be required for this feature (5 minute process and very straightforward). See this article...
  • The module can’t be placed twice on the same page in usable form, meaning that you can’t load the module in via a template within a hide/show div and then have the module work elsewhere on the same ‘page’. Obviously you can have as many instances of the module placed anywhere throughout your site.

Other

  • If you wish your Web links to be crawled by search engines, include them in a site-map such as XMap (or as a standard menu) with a menu item pointing to either all categories or a single category that lists all. Google and others will not find links provided by WebSlink!
  • This module uses Javascript libraries that are best downloaded via GZip compression. I recommend JCH Optimize plug-in, useful for site-wide resources.

Love this module but recently I started getting this msg when trying to open the internal preview link

"This content cannot be displayed in a frame"

the link for my webpage is the page for my weblinks. Thanks

This is a not so common problem with some sites that don't like to be constrained within an iframe. All you can do is send the links to the same or a new window.

Still need an answer to this. "Is it possible to not show All in Categories List?"

If you're able to modify the modules template file (as copied into your active template folder), then you can remove line 35 to remove the All line from the default.php file.

That removed the category but the links still show up.

Is there a way to have it default to blank on the links side?

No.
